But, we aren't in a position to say that we have more to be thankful for than anyone else. Like grief, how can thanks be measured? The path of our lives has taken us to many dark places, but the sliver of light in the distance kept us moving forward. Each person's life has challenges, no one more important the next person's, just different. So if you find yourself thinking along the lines of "so and so has so much more to the thankful for than I do," be happy for yourself! Your issues may be small compared to others, but they are yours and they are important to you.
We have spent several years being thankful for each day. Each minute of each day, actually, because that's where our path took us. We learned just how suddenly things can change. We adapted to our situation, and I believe that we came out of it much stronger.
So, we will celebrate this Thanksgiving Day as a family with a strong future. We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers as you follow the path of your lives. But, if you should see one of us someday, somewhere, smiling for no apparent reason, it's because we are celebrating a mini-Thanksgiving in our minds.
